The Same State Requirement — At Less Than Half the Price

Every TDLR-approved adult drivers ed course meets the exact same 6-hour Texas requirement. The course is the fastest the state allows — no provider can make it shorter. So the real differences are price, format, and support. We're $23.95, with a live-class and in-person option that online-only national courses can't offer.

Under Half the Price

$23.95 vs $59–$89 from leading national online courses. Same 6-hour TDLR-approved requirement, same DPS-accepted result — for less than half the cost.

Three Ways to Take It

Online self-paced, live virtual class with an instructor, or in-person at a Texas branch. Online-only national courses can't offer that.

Real Texas Company

4 physical Texas locations and real people you can call. We also offer in-car lessons and the DPS road test when you're ready.

Your Path to a Texas License — 6 Steps

Enroll, complete the 6-hour online course, pass the DPS written exam inside the course, visit the DPS, complete ITAD, then pass your road test. That's the whole path.

Step 1

1. Enroll in Adult Drivers Ed ($23.95)

Sign up in minutes and pick your format — online, live virtual, or in-person. The course is the 6-hour TDLR-approved adult program for ages 18+.

Step 4

2. Complete the 6-Hour Online Course

Work through all 10 sections at your own pace, on any device. It's the fastest the state allows — most adults finish in a day or two.

Step 10

3. Pass the DPS Written Exam Inside the Course

The official DPS-approved written test is built into the course. Pass it here and you skip the written test at the DPS office entirely.

Step 11

4. Visit the DPS

Bring your certificate and required documents to the DPS. Get an adult learner permit, or go straight to scheduling your driving exam.

Step 14

5. Complete ITAD

Complete the free 1-hour ITAD course — best done the week of your driving exam, as the certificate is only valid for 90 days.

Step 13

6. Pass the Road Test & Get Your License

Schedule your driving (road) test at Drive Safe, any licensed driving school, or the DPS. Pass it and you walk out a fully licensed Texas driver.

Do You Need Texas Adult Drivers Ed?

If you're 18 or older and getting your first Texas driver license, the state requires a 6-hour adult driver education course. This is that course.

Ages 18–24: The 6-hour online course is required, and you must also complete the free ITAD course before your road test.
Ages 25 and older: The 6-hour online course is required to skip the DPS written test. ITAD is also required for ages 25+ before taking the road test at DPS or any driving school.
Already have an out-of-state license?: If Texas honors your license and it's not expired, you can exchange it directly for a Texas license — no course required. If your out-of-state license is expired, you'll need to start from the beginning, including this course.

What to Bring to the DPS for Your License

When you go to the DPS, bring:

  • Your Drive Safe Certificate of Completion (we deliver it instantly)
  • Application for a Texas driver license (form DL-14A) — provided by DPS at the office
  • Proof of identity and lawful U.S. presence (passport, or birth certificate + supporting documents)
  • Your Social Security card
  • Two documents proving Texas residency (e.g. lease contract, electricity bill, gas bill, credit card bill, bank statement)
  • The DPS driver license fee

Requirements can change — always check the current DPS list before you go.
